Today I did a little shopping with friends, and I picked up this gorgeous black v-neck sweater with toggles from the Banana Republic factory store, and friends, it got me thinking about how I wish I could reinvent my entire wardrobe. I went into Brooks Brothers and thought about buying myself a bow tie, but I panicked and decided to hold off.
Autumn and winter are my favorite seasons–for many reasons, but I love to dress in layers, and I love love love a sweater. (Of course I can’t find a link to the sweater I’m wearing anywhere.) I work at a large university, and because my personal style trends to the preppy, I generally choose men’s pieces that lend an air of the professorial.
I’m a fat butch of average height. My shoulders are not broad, my arms are not long– every blazer I try on in the men’s department doesn’t even come close to fitting me. Blazers from women’s plus size departments usually have feminizing details and styling that I don’t like, so finding a casual blazer or suit jacket is nearly impossible.
Here are a few pieces I would love to add to my wardrobe right now if money was no issue.
This is my dream coat. The Brooks Brothers wool duffel coat is my favorite coat in the whole world. The price tag is a bit steep at $600.
Let’s be honest. I want this ENTIRE OUTFIT.
Other things I’d love if money was no issue? a new pair of black 3 hole gibson Doc Martens. A pair of black driving loafers.
