I could spend my whole paycheck on new clothes

Today I did a little shopping with friends, and I picked up this gorgeous black v-neck sweater with toggles from the Banana Republic factory store, and friends, it got me thinking about how I wish I could reinvent my entire wardrobe.  I went into Brooks Brothers and thought about buying myself a bow tie, but I panicked and decided to hold off.

Autumn and winter are my favorite seasons–for many reasons, but I love to dress in layers, and I love love love a sweater.  (Of course I can’t find a link to the sweater I’m wearing anywhere.)  I work at a large university, and  because my personal style trends to the preppy, I generally choose men’s pieces that lend an air of the professorial.

I’m a fat butch of average height.  My shoulders are not broad, my arms are not long– every blazer I try on in the men’s department doesn’t even come close to fitting me.  Blazers from women’s plus size departments usually have feminizing details and styling that I don’t like, so finding a casual blazer or suit jacket is nearly impossible.

Here are a few pieces I would love to add to my wardrobe right now if money was no issue.

heathered navy cardigan sweater with toggle buttons from Banana Republic

olive green military style cardigan sweater

black moleskin blazer from Gap

This is my dream coat.  The Brooks Brothers wool duffel coat is my favorite coat in the whole world.  The price tag is a bit steep at $600.

Let’s be honest.  I want this ENTIRE OUTFIT.

Other things I’d love if money was no issue?  a new pair of black 3 hole gibson Doc Martens.  A pair of black driving loafers.

Butch 360 and dress clothes

G over at Can I Help You Sir started a great project that we’ll be cross posting links to here at Butches A-Go-Go.  The first installment was about compliments– check it out here.

Hopefully we’ll see some content from G here too soon.  And I i have some posts brewing but have been incredibly busy at my new job…a job that requires me to be in professional dress every day, so maybe some work clothes pictures?  It can be a challenge to be a shortish, fat butch in professional dress.

For your minds eye, today I’m wearing a monogrammed sleeved, pinpoint oxford cloth shirt w/ starched collars (no button) with a black Ralph Lauren vest, matching black trousers, black penny loafers, and my favorite Diesel watch.  Maybe I’ll have time to post a picture later.
